How the consonants reduce

Only the consonants count here — vowels sit out. Your own name's consonants reduce the same way.

The other numbers

One number is only part of the map

The number you just worked out is one of five the modern system reads from your name and birth details, and they're all the same move. Take one slice of you, reduce it to a single digit, then read that 1–9 through the lens of which slice it came from. Swap the input and the same method points at a different part of you.

One wrinkle the diagram folds into that middle step: for the name-based numbers, each letter is turned into a number before anything is added; the birth date's digits are already numbers.

Your whole chart

See how your numbers read together

You've just worked out your Personality number, one of five core numbers in your chart. A full reading reads all five together, then goes where a single calculator can't: your four pinnacles and four challenges, the personal year you're in now with the dates it opens and closes, and where your name leans hardest and where it stays silent. One woven reading, with every step shown.

  • A private reveal you return to, and can share, a link that opens for someone else too.
  • A keepsake PDF, your whole reading set like a page to keep.
  • A print-ready PDF, a copy you can hold.

In depth

What a Personality number predicts

The Personality number reads from the consonants of your full birth name. Where the Soul Urge points at what you want underneath, the Personality points at the front: the version of you a room meets first, before it knows the rest. Think of it as the doorway rather than the house — what people register in the first minute, from your bearing and manner, before anyone gets far enough to be wrong about you.

It's a useful one to hold next to the Soul Urge. When the two agree, the face you show is the want underneath it. When they clash, you meet people as one thing and quietly are another — which isn't a fault, just worth knowing about yourself.

Where the Personality number comes from

Splitting a name into consonants and vowels is an old habit with a newer meaning attached. Turning letters into numbers goes back to gematria, attested in an Assyrian inscription from the 8th century BCE, and in 1533 Cornelius Agrippa laid number-values across the Latin alphabet.

The idea that the consonants hold your outward face is much younger. It comes from early-1900s American numerology, which read the vowels — the sounds a word is built around — as the inner life, and the consonants, the harder edges, as the surface it shows. There's no ancient warrant for that split; it's a modern reading, and each number's page marks where the old arithmetic ends and the newer idea begins.

What each Personality number means

Every Personality number reduces to 1 through 9. Here's the short version of each. Follow any one for the full reading: the impression it makes, where that impression gets complicated, and where the meaning comes from.

Questions

Common questions about the Personality number

How is a Personality number calculated?
Only the consonants of your full birth name are counted. Each takes its Pythagorean value, they're added together, and the total is reduced to a single digit or a master number. It's the mirror of the Soul Urge, which uses the vowels.
What does the Personality number describe?
The face you show a room before you speak: the first impression people form of you, rather than what you want underneath. It's read as the outward layer, the part of yourself you show most readily.
Does Y count as a consonant?
Usually yes — Y adds to the Personality number in most names. The exception is a name with no other vowel (like Lynn or Bryn): there Y becomes the vowel and moves over to the Soul Urge. It's the one letter that can switch sides between the two numbers.
