When a master number appears
11, 22 and 33 are master numbers: numerology keeps them whole instead of reducing. One can turn up partway through the sum or as the final total, and since none has a page of its own, it's read through its digit, with more intensity.

Reading meaning into numbers is old. The Greek tradition behind it, arithmology, runs back roughly 2,400 years. That tradition was cosmology: it described how the universe was built, not who you are. The Greeks called 4 “justice” and 7 “the virgin” without ever suggesting your birthday made you one.
The idea that a birth date reduces to a single number describing your character is much younger. It comes from early-1900s American numerology, part of the New Thought movement, which reimagined the old cosmic symbols as personality traits. The birth-date math itself has no traceable ancient source.
